Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of trying SudWest Gyros & Co’s new concept: picnic baskets! For $69, you get: a fried calamari, two choices amongst 15+ dish options like gyros and chicken plates, plus two lemonades or a bottle of sangria. The meal also comes fully equipped with a picnic basket and even a blanket, so you’re all set and ready to enjoy a lovely Greek picnic by the water (you must however return the basket and blanket at the end of your meal).

We opted for the traditional chicken gyro and the plate of Greek chicken. Both choices were very good and Greek chicken portion very generous. The marinade on the Greek chicken was excellent; very lemony and flavourful and the cook was perfect. The fries that accompanied both dishes were homemade, yummy and nicely seasoned too. The fried calamari was very good, especially dipped in some tzatziki. I enjoyed the chicken gyro, but thought it could have used a bit more meat inside.

Overall, we enjoyed a very lovely meal by the water and I highly recommend the experience. If you like casual Greek food, you will not be disappointed!
