My favorite dishes: fresh capicollo + prosciutto pizza
Last weekend, I had the pleasure of checking out Café Gervasi Bar & Grill as their guest! Café Gervasi is a long-time establishment in Saint-Leonard, with Luciano and his sons having taken over just a few months ago. The place pretty much does it all; bar, cafe, lunch and dinner. The menu is pretty varied and offers things like burgers, pizzas, submarines, salads and more. They also have a small counter full of different cuts of meats for you to choose from and Luciano will grill that up for you. Here are the dishes we had the pleasure of trying:
- Prosciutto pizza: tomato sauce, mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula, parmesan
- Fresh grilled capicollo
- Legendary burger: 1/3 pound 100% angus beef, bacon, capicollo, mozzarella, cheddar, onion rings and Gervasi sauce
We had an excellent lunch at Café Gervasi and I highly recommend the place for the food. The place itself lacks in terms of decor and atmosphere, but its just not one of those places. If you’re in the area and looking for a great casual Italian meal, Café Gervasi is an excellent pick, but I wouldn’t necessarily take a date there. I really liked everything we ate, but the pizza and the fresh grilled capicollo definitely stood out in terms of flavour, texture, cook and seasoning. The pizza was exactly how I like mine; thinner in the middle and thicker and fluffier on the outside/crust. The taste of the dough was also very nice. They were generous with the amount of melted cheese (which is always a shame when they’re not) and the sauce tasted great, as did the toppings. Really, a very good pizza. I also really liked the fresh grilled capicollo, which I’d never had before (only the cold-cut version). The meat was very tasty, nicely seasoned, juicy and perfectly grilled. If you like pork in general, you’re sure to love this! The Legendary burger we had was very good too. I loved the cook and taste of the meat and the bun was actually a pizza dough bun which is very cool. However, as much as I love cheese, I found it too cheesy; it reminded me more of a grilled cheese than a burger.
If you’re in the area and after a good pizza, burger/sandwich or slab of meat, Café Gervasi is the place for you!
