Turquoise Marketing’s 7 Reasons To Hire A Wedding Planner!
I’ve always wanted to be an event planner, ever since I was 16 years old and planned my after-prom party for my group of 30 friends. Sure, renting out a small boutique hotel in Montreal doesn’t sound like a big deal, but there’s still a good amount of work that goes into researching the different places, visiting the venue, establishing a price (my 16 year old self did not realize I could have negotiated better rates), collecting money from 30 different people, etc.
So, when the time finally came around and I was engaged to be married, I figured, why wouldn’t I just plan the wedding myself?
I’m definitely happy that I did plan my wedding myself (and with Alex too) now that its all said and done. It was an excellent learning experience, especially since I had never planned a wedding before. However, if I had to do it again, I would hire a wedding planner and here’s 7 reasons why:
YOU WANT TO FULLY ENJOY YOUR WEDDING DAY
Let’s start with the most important one. Your wedding day is once in a lifetime; you want to be enjoying it and fully embracing it, not working and worrying about all the little details. Trust me, after having lived through the experience very recently, you want someone else to be in charge for once. You want to maximize the amount of time you spend with your guests, as some may have traveled quite the distance to share this special day with you (I had friends fly into Montreal from the UK, USA and the rest of the country). But, before the wedding day actually comes around the corner, there are a lot of places where your wedding planner can help you, like:
YOU WANT PROFESSIONAL ADVICE AND GUIDANCE
Never organised a wedding before? Don’t know where to start? Don’t know where to set-up the Sweets Table? By hiring a wedding planner, you’ll have someone to answer all of your questions and guide you with all the minute details that you didn’t even know you had to think about. They’ve likely also planned a handful of weddings before and are full of resources, tips and tricks. Perhaps they’ve even organised weddings at the venue that you chose! Speaking of venue, that’s something else your wedding planner can help you with, from the get-go. Research not your thing? With a wedding planner, you can tell them your criteria and have them find and suggest venues for you to visit, kind of like a real estate agent. And, in the case that you haven’t thought of a certain detail, your wedding planner will be there to take care of it, without you even knowing about it.
YOU WANT SOMEONE TO MANAGE YOUR WEDDING BUDGET
Not good with money? You’re not the only one. With a wedding planner, once you and your future spouse have set the budget (no one but you can do this) you can leave this daunting task to your wedding planner to handle for you, so you can focus on the fun parts of wedding planning!
YOU WANT SOMEONE TO MAKE SURE WEDDING PLANNING IS ON TRACK
Time management and multi-tasking not part of your vocabulary? They aren’t for a lot of people. With a wedding planner, you can trust them to make sure all of the wedding planning stays on track and that you don’t find yourself inviting your guests to your wedding 1 month before. Certain parts of the wedding planning process are also more time sensitive than others, like finding and booking a venue versus choosing the flavor of your wedding cake. Additionally, some parts of the planning process are dependent upon others, like the venue and the invitations. You can’t send your invitations out unless you have an address! With a wedding planner, you can let them worry about all these little details.
YOU WANT SOMEONE TO RUN THE DAY FOR YOU
This one definitely ties back to the earlier point that you want to be able to fully enjoy your wedding day. In order for that to happen, you need to have someone there who will run the entire day for you, so that you don’t have to do it yourself! A wedding planner will make sure that the wedding schedule runs on time (as best as possible), that the pigeons are released from their cage at precisely 17h25, etc.
YOU WANT SOMEONE ELSE TO DEAL WITH THE UNEXPECTED
Of course, with all events, there is always the unexpected (trust me). With a wedding planner, you’ll have someone to not just manage the unexpected but also provide a solution. Because one of the main tasks of an event planner, is to be quick on your feet and find the fastest and easiest possible solution to any problem you encounter.
YOU WANT SOMEONE ELSE TO BE THE POINT OF CONTACT
So that its not you. Imagine having to deal with things like “where is the soya sauce for the sushi?” or “can I have more chimmichurri for my steak?” or even “I dropped my fork on the floor; can I get another one?”. As legitimate as these questions may (or may not) be, you don’t want to have to be answering them, unless the question is about a life-threatening emergency.
CAVEAT: GET YOURSELF A DAY-OF-ONLY WEDDING PLANNER
Bonus reason #8! If, after reading all this you are still not convinced or maybe you’re planning a very small wedding, I 100% recommend you get yourself a day-of-only wedding planner. The only reason I’m going to give you: the 7 above-mentioned reasons (lol) and ok, the fact that it’ll cost you less money.
Even though I planned my own DIY Wedding myself, I did get myself a day-of-only wedding planner and she turned out to be a life saver. I’ve heard that some agencies/planning services will do it for a fee of roughly $500 a day, which to me seems like a fair price. Of course, you can always contact me and I’ll be more than happy to provide you with that service!
But, at the end of the day, its your choice! Many other factors can play into this too, like: your budget (like it did for us), the size of your guest list (ours was just under 100) and more. And, if you do decide to organize your wedding yourself, check out my blog post on DIY Weddings – Do’s & Don’ts!
But, if you do decide to go with the wedding planner route, don’t hesitate to contact me for all your wedding planning needs! I may have only organised 1 wedding (my own), but I have more than 10 years of event planning experience (including 5 years of professional event planning experience in the corporate world and I’m the face behind all of Turquoise Blog’s Foodies & Bloggers Dinners and Insta Foodie Dinners), a Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) in marketing with a focus on event planning and a passion for events 🙂
