Can you believe that until this year, I had never been to Sammi & Soupe Dumpling? I still can’t. Sammi & Soupe Dumpling is said, by many, to be the best xia long bao (soup dumpling) place in Montreal and well, I gotta say, they were right. It was so good, that I even went back the very next week.
Sammi & Soupe Dumpling is on Ste-Catherine West, very close to Concordia (I guess one of the nice things about going to JMSB would have been going to Sammi & Soupe Dumpling on a weekly basis ❤ #mcgillpride). They pretty much only offer soup dumplings or fried dumplings, along with a few small dishes like soups and salads.
The first time I went, we were 5, so we ordered 3 orders of soup dumplings and 2 orders of fried dumplings. I have to say, their fried dumplings are very average and you can find much better elsewhere. If you’re coming to Sammi & Soupe Dumpling, its for soup dumplings (its not called Sammi & Fried Dumpling now is it?). These were the best I’ve ever had and I agree, so far, are the best I’ve had in Montreal. They were just so juicy and soupy on the inside, full of juicy fillings and all of that wrapped up in a perfectly fitting shell. My favorites were the Pork-scallop-shrimp and shrimp-corriander soup dumplings. Even my friend Leila, who has been to Shanghai, Hong Kong and Vancouver agreed that these were delicious.
Overall, I enjoyed an excellent meal both times I went. The food was amazing and the staff was friendly and helpful (especially when we ordered a bottle of wine and they couldn’t find an ice bucket for us at first haha). I have my own criteria when it comes to reviewing restaurants, which I also use on my Instagram account (@elisebgravel). It’s very simple, there are only three points: the quality of the food (on 10), the price (from $ to $$$$$) and the following question: would I go back?
So, here is my review of Sammi & Soupe Dumpling:
Would I go back?: 100% yes
