Last month, some girl friends and I decided to have a ladies night – without the boys – and chose to do so at Mélisse. First off, let me say, it was hella difficult to find parking nearby! Parking in that part of town is very limited and they were removing the snow that same night, so it was even more scarce. Finally, I found parking nearby in a snow removal marked area and just said #yolo (the snow had been removed already, so it was now ok to park, right? I didn’t get a ticket, so I guess that’s a yes).

Mélisse is beautiful restaurant, located in a part of town I guess you could qualify as Old Montreal. Its just off McGill Street and St. Paul West; so its not quite the Old Port, nor is it Griffintown. I think its safe to say its Old Montreal. The ambiance is also very quiet and cosy, which makes it a great place to have a romantic dinner or just any dinner where you want to hear yourself speaking without having to yell over loud music. I heard they have great brunch and that during the day, its more of a café than a restaurant.

I have to say, the menu was quite underwhelming, such that we only ordered a few starters to share: charcuteries, cheeses and a green salad. The food was good, but hey, you can’t really go wrong with what we ordered. We also ordered a bottle of white and a bottle of rosé wines; I much preferred the white, which was a delicious bottle of Sauvignon Blanc: Sancerre Frétoy du Domaine Tinel-Blondelet.

Overall, we had a great time at Mélisse and were able to enjoy each other’s company and conversation. I’m not entirely certain I would go back, especially considering the difficult parking situation (I come from Longueuil so the car and parking are a must) and the quite honestly boring menu. I would definitely be more tempted to come for brunch and experience Mélisse during the day. I have my own criteria when it comes to reviewing restaurants, which I also use on my Instagram account (@elisebgravel). It’s very simple, there are only three points: the quality of the food (on 10), the price (from $ to $$$$$) and the following question: would I go back?

So, here is my review of Mélisse:
Food: 8/10
Price: $$$
Would I go back?: Maybe to try brunch, but probably not for dinner/drinks.
