Restaurant: Gaufres & Glaces
Restaurant type: bubble waffles, ice cream, desserts
Date: Saturday February 16th 2019
Last month, my family and I had the pleasure of checking out the latest addition to the Gaufres & Glaces family, as their guests! The latest and newest Gaufres & Glaces is located inside Place Vertu, in Ville Saint-Laurent (VSL). They have a few more locations around the city, including: Fairview Pointe-Claire (West Island), in Terrebonne and in the Plateau (closed during the winter). Gaufres & Glaces offers a pretty unique experience (although I believe the original bubble waffle place is La Cabane de Danny in Chinatown), where you can order one of many types of desserts and customize it to your liking!
Their more popular dessert is a bubble waffle with ice cream, where you can also dip the ice cream, add one of many sauces to it and then add all of the toppings you’d like. There are other ways of serving and preparing desserts, like a “flat” bubble waffle, drinks inside a light bulb and then your standard ice cream in a cone or cup.
Obviously, you gotta do it for the gram, so I opted for their bubble waffle with strawberry and vanilla swirl soft-serve ice cream, rainbow sparkles and mini m&m’s. Everything was delicious and very sweet (but in a good way) and it looked amazing. The coldness and freshness of the ice cream really helped in balancing the sweetness of the toppings, as did the waffle, which wasn’t overly sweet.
Mia and Esteban also opted for bubble waffles with ice cream, whereas Alex opted for a bubble waffle smothered in melted marshmallows and covered with a chocolate sauce drizzle and some crumbled graham crackers. This dessert I found to be too sweet and without the ice cream, there was no cooling and balancing factor. With that said, it was very good and with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, would have made it that much better.
Last but not least, I guess Gaby decided to play it safe and ordered something he was familiar with: a chocolate rim dipped waffle cone, with chocolate ice cream, dipped in chocolate and covered in rainbow sparkles (can you tell he likes chocolate?). According to him, it was one of the best things he’s ever eaten.
A big thank you to Gaufres et Glaces for feeding all five of us and allowing us to satisfy our sweet tooth 🙂 As mentioned, Gaufres et Glaces has 4 locations all over the Greater Montreal Area so if you like sweets too, make sure to check them out! Its the perfect sweet treat while shopping at Fairview or Place Vertu, or on a hot and sunny day in the Plateau. Enjoy!
