Restaurants: M.Mme x Greasy Spoon
Event: Oystermania Spring 2018
Date: Friday June 1st 2018
Table of: 2
Back in June, my friend Leila and I chose M.Mme and Greasy Spoon for our Oystermania Spring 2018 evening! Every year, twice a year, we choose two participating restaurants (within walking distance from each other), pay 20$ and get two dozens of oysters and 2 drinks; how good of a deal is that? Lucky for you, Oystermania is back for its fall 2018 edition, from October 11th to the 21st, so oyster lovers, get ready!! Both of these restaurants, M.Mme and Greasy Spoon are also participating in this fall’s edition.
Oystermania Part 1: M.Mme
First on the list was M.Mme, on avenue Laurier near Park. M.Mme is a wine bar, which boasts a huge selection of wines (duh). The place was beautiful, very classy and fancy. Best of all, the oysters were delicious, fresh, nicely sized (medium) and super fresh; you could tell they had just been shucked for us and not in advance, like some other places do (Bord’elle, êat (now Nom Nom Cantine) and others surely). The wine we had was also very good. However, a loss of points on the service, which was a bit snobby, probably because we didn’t look like two Outremont heiresses; a shame.
I have my own criteria when it comes to reviewing restaurants, which I also use on my Instagram account (@elisebgravel). It’s very simple, there are only three points: the quality of the food (on 10), the price (from $ to $$$$$) and the following question: would I go back?
So, here is my review of M.Mme (for Oystermania) :
Food: 10/10
Price: $
Would I go back?: Probably not, the service was a turn off.

Oystermania Part 2: Greasy Spoon
So, after we ate our first dozen oysters and drank our glass of wine at M.Mme, we walked over about 1 minute west to Greasy Spoon, for part 2 of our Oystermania evening! Greasy Spoon is definitely more casual than M.Mme and has these rustic and western vibes. They have a huge bar inside and a spacious terrasse on the outside. Unfortunately, I was dissapointed with the oysters from Greasy Spoon; they were very small (too small is no good) and didn’t feel as fresh as the others. However, we also ordered some other food – fried calamari and fried goat cheese balls – and both were delicious, especially the goat cheese balls. They were warm, crispy on the outside, cheesey and gooey on the inside and had a delicious honey drizzle on them; the best! Service was also really good and super friendly.

So, here is my review of Greasy Spoon (overall) :
Food: 9/10 (bonus points for their regular menu)
Price: $$
Would I go back?: Not for Oystermania, but definitely for their goat cheese balls!
