My favorite dishes: the poké bowls
A couple weeks ago, I had the pleasure of hosting yet another Foodies & Bloggers Dinner, at Sushi Sama (Au Village). This time, it was all about #ExperienceSushiSama and their delicious sushis, poké bowls, tartares and more! Sushi Sama actually has 3 locations in Montreal: one on Beaubien (a sushi counter, which I tried last fall), one of Fleury (more of an Asian BYOW resto, which actually goes under the name Sama Fusion) and their newest location in the Village! Most location also offer takeout and delivery, so if you feel like an upgrade from your grocery store sushi, give Sushi Sama a try! Present this time around to #ExperienceSushiSama, there was myself @elisebgravel, familiar faces Victor @randomcuisine and Julie @julie_missjolie, as well as new friends Sarah @redlipstalk, Bri @foodiebri and Alex @jellybeaneats.
First Service: Trio of Poké Bowls

The first service consisted of a trio of poké bowls – salmon & tuna, shrimps & crab and vegetarian – which are Sushi Sama’s best sellers. The good thing about eating food that is served to you cold, is that you can spend a lot of time taking photos and not worry about eating an unwanted cold meal 🙂 That’s pretty much what happened with these guys and everything else, as we took a lot of pictures.
Its hard for me to choose a favorite, as all three poké bowls were excellent. I do love raw salmon, so that was a big hit for me, but the vegetarian poké with sweet potato fries was delicious, as was the poké bowl with sesame oil marinated shrimps de Matane and the tempura fried shrimps. The poké bowls were all seasoned nicely and came with a delicious mayo based sauce (I like to add a bit of soya sauce too!). Everything was very fresh and flavourful and full of beautiful colors.
Second Service: Tuna Tartare

Next up was a tray of tuna tartare bites over fried sweet potato slices, which was delicious. I’m not usually a big fan of raw tuna, but this tuna tartare was amazing. Again, a lot of different flavours and ingredients and very well balanced. The sweet potato slices added a nice sweet and crunchy base, which was very good!
Third Service: Sushi Platters

The third service consisted of the pièce de résistance: the much awaited sushi platters!! (Also, at this point, we decided to move everything to the floor and to shoot there; it was quite the experience). All of the sushis were delicious; some of my favorites had fresh asparagus inside (an ingredient you wouldn’t normally think to use), others had tempura shrimps, salmon tartare and more! Everything was very fresh, delicious and well seasoned. I was also happy to see that a few were leftover for my lunch the next day!
Fourth Service: Dessert Sushi

The final service consisted of dessert sushi, with strawberries, kiwi, banana and rice, as well as a condensed milk dipping sauce. These sushi were also very good and the perfect way to end a fantastic meal.

Overall, we had a great time at Sushi Sama, getting to sample a little bit of everything off their extensive sushi menu. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to making this evening special, to my guests for attending and to Sushi Sama for the wonderful dinner! Part of the planning for this dinner also included the table decor and gift bags for my attendees. Beautiful hand painted name cards were provided by Bluberry Canvas. The red, orange, black and white floral arrangement, reflecting Sushi Sama’s colors, was provided by Fleuriste Atropa Belladonna. And, two goodies were provided for the attendees’ gift bags: a praline macaron from La petite macaronette, as well as a spring floral themed cupcake by Kupcakes by Kim. Thank you all for your generous contributions!
Sushi Sama is the perfect place to grab or get delivered some delicious and fresh sushi, poké bowls, sushi pizzas, tartares – you name it! Plus, they have 3 locations across the city, of which one is a BYOW resto! So, what are you waiting for to #ExperienceSushiSama ?
